Varandas do Bairro Alto, The Palace of the Balconies

Bairro Alto

We are located on the first floor of an elegant and iconic 19th-century building.

Situated in one of Lisbon’s most famous districts, Bairro Alto, on the renowned Rua do Grémio Lusitano, a street immortalised by the Grande Oriente Lusitano and known for its Masonic Palace.

The building retains its original charm and architecture. During its restoration, the classical features were carefully preserved and harmoniously blended with contemporary elements, resulting in a refined and comfortable atmosphere

The Palace

This was once the residence of the noble Counts of Araújo, a family whose name remains part of its legacy.

A distinguished aristocratic palace, it stood for years as a reference in Portuguese high society.

It witnessed solemn ceremonies, grand celebrations, and intriguing mysteries. From its charm emerged fantastic stories,  like those of the famous sisters, Aunt Josefa and Aunt Genoveva, known for their golden-thread embroidery. A true fairy tale, passed down through generations, timeless and enchanting.
